We have been very busy this month learning all about our Local History. Earlier this month we learned about the local revolutionary Joe Howley and we walked around Oranmore learning about his life. Today (30th April) we went to Galway city to learn all about the rich history it has to offer. We enjoyed a walking history tour of Medieval Galway, as well as a tour of the museum. It was a great day!
As always we have been excelling in out artistic capabilities this month! We decorated the corridors with lots of Christmas-themed art. As well as this, we created dioramas on animal habitats. In English writing and Science we were learning how to write and research detailed reports about animals so this integrated very nicely with our theme.
As part of our STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, art and maths) learning, we have been designing and building bridges from lolipop sticks. We have had to plan our designs, work as a team and solve problems as they arise. Our bridges are nearly finished. Check back in in the new year to see the finished products!
Sixth Class did themselves proud this year with the choir and music performances in the Galway Clinic on the 8th December and the Church on the 20th December. They sang their hearts out and really spread Christmas cheer to all who heard them. The music group were joined by renowned trad musicians Yvonne Flynn and Tom Cussen who's talent and advice really added to the group. Well and go raibh maith agaibh to all involved!
Sixth class boys, joined by the girls of Scoil Mhuire enjoyed a brilliant tour of Oranmore Castle today. We learned so much about the history of the castle from it’s origins 700 years ago, to ghosts who haunt the castle. Thanks so much to Leonie King for such a fascinating tour of the castle.

We really enjoyed our annual Cinema trip. We went to see Wonka. As well as enjoying the movie and the popcorn, we made sure the 1st class got to and from the cinema safely.
