Grandparents Day 2020

We had a lovely day in Thursday, Grandparents Day. Many grandparents came into shared their wealth of knowledge with us.

Understanding Homelessness.

We listened to the song 'Streets of London' and visualised images from the song. We had a class discussion on homeless people and and who it affects, from single men and women down on their luck, to families having to live in hotels. Realising it could happen to anybody. It is such a strong song with a lovely tune.

Vikings

We have been learning about Vikings in school. Here the boys used chalk to draw their own pictures of what they imagine the Vikings were like.

We love to Read!

After our trip to the library, where the boys choose their own books we came back to school to get started on reading them. Some relaxing music also helps. 📚😁

Oranmore Hertitage Walk - Our Locality.

Today we took advantage of the lovely crisp day and headed off to do the Oranmore Hertitage Walk. We were very fortunate to meet Fr. O'Dwyer and he gave us a history lesson on the new Church. He was full of information and we really enjoyed listening to him. We also visited the old Church (library), The Old Saddlery (The Porterhouse), The Joe Howley Statue, The Spring Well - where Oranmore got it's name and the Castle. Thanks to Mr O'Boyle for a joint effort in being tour guides 😁

Procedural Writing

We had a great lesson on Procedural Writing. Firstly, teacher gave us coloured paper and read instructions to us which we followed. It wasn't long until we realised we were making paper aeroplanes! We had a flying competition and 4 boys won! 🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️ Next we were split into groups of 4. Some groups were to make banana sandwiches 🥪, another a jam sandwich 🥪, others a jigsaw 🧩 and the rest were to wash their hands correctly 👐. Two in each group carried out the task while two wrote down step by step what was done. It was good fun! After, we listened to everyone's writing and heard some great 'Bossy' verbs. We even got to eat the sandwiches once our work was done. 😁
