We have done a lot of reading in 3rd class so far this year and most recently, we enjoyed reading George's Marvellous Medicine. We loved creating some concoctions of our own! The boys have worked hard on their strategies before, during and after reading and recording their ideas and illustrations in their reading response copies. We love sharing our work and giving feedback to each other.

Absorption Experiment

The boys conducted an experiment to see what material was the most absorbent. After much discussion, they decided on their enquiry question to guide their experiment. After making their predictions and asking lots of questions, they conducted their experiment. After the final result, the boys reflected on their learning and talked about what they would do differently next time around!

Tom Crean

3rd class have been learning all about Tom Crean recently. The boys researched his life in many different ways: through story, watching a documentary, reading books about his life and observing old photographs. They decided to make their own version of one of the ships Tom Crean travelled on (Discovery, Terra Nova and Endurance) and made boats using clay and other materials in Art.

The boys worked very hard on their research projects and report writing before Easter. In pairs and individually, they used the Ipads and information texts to research a topic of their choice. They did a fantastic job!

What material will keep ice lollies the coolest?

Our class investigated 'what material will keep ice lollies the coolest?' We used 5 different materials: newspaper, tinfoil, a J-cloth, a plastic bag and kitchen paper. We made predictions for which ice cube would stay the coolest and which ice cube would melt the quickest. We wrapped each ice cube in the above materials and waited patiently. We discovered that the ice cube wrapped in newspaper stayed the coolest and the ice cube wrapped in kitchen paper was the quickest to melt. In order to make it a fair test, we ensured each material was the same size and ice cubes were the same size.

Junior Entrepreneur Showcase Day

Last Friday we had our Junior Entrepreneur Showcase Day. It was a very successful day and the 5th class boys got to show all the wonderful work they have put in the last few months. The boys who ordered a TEEE Bag collected them on the day. The Junior Entrepreneur Flag was also raised at the end of the day.
