We have been learning about Vikings in school. Here the boys used chalk to draw their own pictures of what they imagine the Vikings were like.

Over the past few weeks 5th class have been studying the Normans in History. We learned about how the Normans invaded Ireland and the places that they settled in. The Normans were excellent soldiers and were strategic in selecting locations that they could defend their colonies from. We examined different towns in Ireland where the Normans built their castles for example Athlone and Athenry. The most common feature Norman castles shared was a motte and bailey. We decided to work in groups and make models of Norman castles. Some boys chose to use lego and cardboard, while others presented their project digitally using minecraft. All in a all it was a very enjoyable and educational experience!
