Congratulations to our HPS Committee for all their hard work in helping us achieve our latest award.

The first class boys have been very busy over the past few weeks: we continued learning about space and made junk art rockets, Sun dials and silhouette puppet theatres as we were learning about light. We had great fun during Active Schools Week and International Day. We really enjoyed a hurling and football blitz at the Maree pitches and were delighted to have a visit from the Oranmore Maree team with their county, Connacht, and all-Ireland cups! Looking forward to a well deserved break!
Today first class were visited by dental nurse Smiley Eileey who told us all about how to take care of our teeth and what foods and drinks are most damaging to our teeth. She even told us some fun facts such as that candy floss was invented by a dentist, and that long ago in Germany, people thought it was good for your teeth if you kissed a donkey! We think we'll stick to brushing, flossing and using mouthwash which we got in a goodie bag from Eileen!
First class have been learning about the theme of space and last week designed their own rockets, exploring forces and how to make them move. We used the force of air by placing rockets on balloons and letting them go, and then created gas by mixing vinegar and baking soda - some worked better than others but we had great fun!
Today in third and fourth class we were learning the very important skill of budgeting. The children armed with their Lidl magazines were asked to design a meal for 4 people with a budget of €20. The meal needed to include a starter, main course and a dessert. While the meals were questionable the children were very good at spending the maximum amount of money available to them.
Scoil Iosaif Naofa has been awarded the Discover Primary Science and Maths Plaque of STEM Excellence for 2019. To achieve this award the pupils excelled with their skills and knowledge in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths.
