Our posts
Book Clubs

We have done a lot of reading in 3rd class so far this year and most recently, we enjoyed reading George's Marvellous Medicine. We loved creating some concoctions of our own! The boys have worked hard on their strategies before, during and after reading and recording their ideas and illustrations in their reading response copies. We love sharing our work and giving feedback to each other.

Absorption Experiment

The boys conducted an experiment to see what material was the most absorbent. After much discussion, they decided on their enquiry question to guide their experiment. After making their predictions and asking lots of questions, they conducted their experiment. After the final result, the boys reflected on their learning and talked about what they would do differently next time around!

Tom Crean

3rd class have been learning all about Tom Crean recently. The boys researched his life in many different ways: through story, watching a documentary, reading books about his life and observing old photographs. They decided to make their own version of one of the ships Tom Crean travelled on (Discovery, Terra Nova and Endurance) and made boats using clay and other materials in Art.

Research Projects

The boys worked very hard on their research projects and report writing before Easter. In pairs and individually, they used the Ipads and information texts to research a topic of their choice. They did a fantastic job!

Junior Achievement

3rd class recently took part in the Junior Achievement Programme, 'Our City'. Our facilitator Séaghan, taught us a lot about life in a city and even helped us to build a city! The boys constructed paper buildings, mapped out a city, wrote newspaper articles, planned their own ice-cream shop and examined why banks are important. Future Engineers and Planners in the making!

A trip to the Aquarium

As part of our Explorers Programme, the boys had the opportunity to visit the Galway Aquarium. We learned a lot about marine life, fed some fish, held starfish and even dissected a squid! We even managed to visit the playground on route. The boys had a great day and a lot of fun was had!
