4th Class had a wonderful day at the Portumna Workhouse and Forest Park. We walked in the exact same places that many destitute people walked in many years before us. Thankfully only imagining what it was like. And being grateful for all we have these days. It is our history and a fantastic way to remember it. Portumna is one of the few Workhouses that is preserved and has many of the original features still there today.
A lovely and enthusiastic author and illustrator came to the school today to have a chat with the boys. Alan Nolan wrote many books and illustrated his own work. He gave a short workshop on drawing Dracula, which is a character in one of his new upcoming books. The boys really enjoyed it and we're captivated by his enthusiasm.

The sun was shining today so we took ourselves off to Bluebell Woods to look at what kind of native Irish trees we could find. We had a lovely afternoon full of discovery and learning.

It's so rare we get snow we decided to make the most of it, but it was mostly ice! The boys did well making their Ice Men. There was great teamwork going on and the boys enjoyed themselves.
