Draughts Competition

Congratulations to James Costello who defeated his brother Conor in the final of the 5th class Christmas Draughts Competition. This knock out competition saw all 30 boys compete for the top prize. After a few tough qualifying rounds the Costelllo twins made their way to the final which was a tense affair. In the end James prevailed using a very clever move to fianlly see off Conor. Well done boys!

Investigating Bridges

4th Class were investigating the Bridges of the world. Tower Bridges, Cable Bridges And Suspended Bridges. The boys each researched a different bridge and reported back to the group. Then we drew our own suspension bridges and created our own Tower Bridge. There are many fascinating Bridges out there but the boys were very curious as to if London Bridge actually fell down!

Bridges

Third and fourth class have been examining bridges. We looked at a range of bridges and discussed what materials were used and the designs used to make them strong. We researched how long it took to make different bridges and the amount of weight they can hold. We discovered that the longest bridge in the world in the newly opened bridge that connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai. It is 55km long. We had to concentrate really hard to draw intricate suspension bridges but we feel we did a good job. For science the children were given two pieces of paper and had to investigate how to make the paper into a strong bridge. We discovered that folding the paper and making an arch under the bridge helped make our bridges stronger. We'll never look at a bridge the same way again!

What a Star!

We performed our Christmas play 'What a Star' for our family and friends on the 17th December and everyone was very proud of us! We worked very hard learning our lines and songs and put lots of effort into our costumes on the night. Thanks to Ms. Holian and Ann Walsh who helped us prepare for the night!

Marvelling at marbling!

We had great fun exploring print and pattern in art this week using marbling inks. The colours and patterns reminded us of the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, which we had been learning about in Geography so we decided to turn them into these pieces of art! We are very proud of our work.
