About us

Scoil Iósaif Naofa is an all-boys school in Oranmore, Co Galway.
Boys come to our school in 1st class and currently we have 10 classes in our school.
Our enrolment is 260, we have 15 teachers, 4 S.N.A.s, a school secretary and a caretaker.
Our school is a very busy place with lots of activities during the school day and after school.
We are currently piloting a Homework Club in the school for pupils who wish to remain in school and do their homework from Monday to Thursday each week.
We have many extra-curricular activities in the school such as Guitar, Speech and Drama, Art, Mad Science, Piano, Violin, Saxophone, Flute as well as Hurling and football practice after school two days a week.
During the school day we endeavour to make the curriculum as interesting and as varied as possible and to give the boys the opportunity to show their talents in the school and in the wider community.
Tá grá mór againn don Ghaeilge sa scoil seo. Sa bhliain 2009 bhuaigh an scoil gradam Gleo mar gheall ar an iarracht atá á dhéanamh againn Gaeilge Labhartha a chothu sa scoil.
We were proud to be presented with the Gleo trophy by President Mary Mc Aleese in 2009 in acknowledgement of our interest in and our commitment to the promotion of spoken Irish in the school.
We also have a great interest in promoting Music in our school. Every year are invited to perform in the Galway Clinic and in local shopping centres where we make collections for local charities.
March each year sees us practicing for St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Oranmore, an outing where we are happy to represent the school in our local community parade.
Sport is always important in schools. We play Hurling, Football, Olympic Handball, Rugby and Soccer. We are also very interested in Athletics and we are the current Junior and Senior Connaught Cross Country champions. We are lucky to have the expertise of Martin and Denise Conneely who help in the coaching of the boys each year.
We also take part in the Galway City Sports in June each year and have enjoyed good success in this event throughout the years.
We record all our school events in our Newsletters which we produce bi-monthly, in the local More News Newsletter and in our school Magazine which we produce each year.We hope that you find items of interest on our website and that you get to know and enjoy learning about our school.
Le gach dea-ghuí,

Ann Hyland (Principal)
